All the shades of Drusilla Foer: "I enjoy dealing with the unexpected."

"Freshness and joy": this is the stylistic hallmark of Parla con Dru, the new show by Drusilla Foer, which the Tuscan singer, actress, and author brings to the stage Thursday at 9 pm in the charming Piazza Malatestiana in Longiano, for an evening of confidences, songs, and improvisation. "It's like sitting outside a bar chatting," says the artist, a true style icon, "supported by a coffee with sambuca that makes me feel bubbly." A lucid and self-deprecating portrait that perfectly sums up the spirit of the format: a live encounter, balancing humor and sincerity, where the pace is set by questions from the audience and the flashes of a protagonist who has made unpredictability her trademark. No set list, pure improvisation: how do you prepare for each evening? "I don't prepare at all, I just come on stage like a kamikaze! I really love improvisation. When I'm on stage, I always hope a cable will snap or someone will fall: I enjoy dealing with the unexpected. Then, if you're an artist who tries to be sincere, there's a lot of who you are in improvisation."
Is he giving himself to the public, without a safety net?
"Yes, the idea of being available to the audience for questions, without knowing where it's going, excites me and at the same time relaxes me. I like to make myself available to others' curiosity, rather than proposing my own beliefs."
The best question they asked you and the cheekiest?
"The most beautiful one was from a little boy who asked me how to behave when he falls in love. I replied: focus on kindness. The most insolent? A little girl came on stage and asked me how old I was... I told her mother to take her back immediately!"
In October we will see her again at the theatre in 'Frida Opera Musical', an ambitious production dedicated to Frida Kahlo, directed by Andrea Ortis.
"It's a highly intelligent text, which paints a profound portrait of this extraordinary artist, going beyond her pop image."
You will play the role of La Catrina, an iconic character in Mexican culture: how will you approach this role?
I'll put myself at the service of the director and the team. I almost always work independently, but here I'll have to deal with a mechanism bigger than myself and my artistic convictions. It's a stimulating challenge: the last time I trusted myself like this was with Tutto chiede salvare (the Netflix series recently awarded the Nastro d'Argento, ed.), an experience that was intertwined with powerful emotions.
Then, starting in January, he'll be back on tour with "Venere Nemica," inspired by "Cupid and Psyche." Ninety-five sold-out performances. What's the secret?
"I don't question my success; I prefer to reflect on the limits I need to overcome. With Venere Nemica, I tried to open a new emotional channel with the audience. Compared to Eleganzissima (her previous show that was a box office hit, ed.), it's a 'crunchy' show, but also sarcastic, at times cruel. That's why I appreciated the audience's reception even more, because I had to work hard to win them over."
Do you like to constantly challenge yourself?
"I feel privileged to be able to express so many 'shades' of myself. I'm bored to death with myself, so—returning to Longiano—I hope the questions are as insistent as possible. On stage, it will be like cooking while talking to friends. And even to enemies, God bless them!"
